]]>Ultron (First Appearance ‘Avengers’ #54, 1968)
Created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema in the late 60s, Ultron (or Ultron-5, the living automaton) was originally the invention-gone-awry of Hank Pym aka Ant-Man. Driven by an intense hatred of his creator, Ultron becomes a regular menace for the Avengers throughout the late 60s. He is also the creator of the android Vision. However, ironically, Vision also rebels against his creator and joins the Avengers Ultron.
In the 1970s Ultron returned once more, reconstructed by the villainous genius Maximus of the Inhumans. Ultron (now upgraded to Ultron-8) creates a robot bride named Jocasta, who is endowed with the brain patterns of Hank Pym’s wife Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp. However, realizing that her life will cause Janet’s death, Jocasta also rebels against Ultron and allows the Avengers to reverse the process.
After a brief appearance during Marvel’s crossover event ‘Secret Wars’ in the 80s, a new Ultron appears calling himself Ultron Mark 12. This new Ultron befriends Hank Pym and ultimately defends Pym against the evil Ultron 11 with his life.
Later on in the 90s, Ultron 14 is once again looking for love in all the wrong places and builds himself a new robot companion, Alkhema, built with the brain patterns of Barbara Barton aka Mockingbird, Hawkeye’s wife. Sadly, Ultron is once more betrayed by the one he loves and Alkhema joins with the Avengers to thwart his nefarious plans.
By the turn of the millennium, Ultron resurfaces and infects Tony Stark, Iron Man’s armor taking control over the hero. Hank Pym, however, is able to wipe the virus from Stark’s suit, flinging Ultron’s consciousness into space. While in space, Ultron encounters the techno race known as the Phalanx and takes command over them. This leads to the major crossover event Annihilation: Conquest.
Most recently Ultron showed up in the time traveling crossover event Age of Ultron. Age of Ultron reveals an Ultron who is working from the future to impose his techno-organic domination over the Earth. Pushed to extreme measures, the Avengers decide that the only way to stop him is to go back into the past and kill Hank Pym before he can create him, creating an even worse butterfly effect they have to solve.
And there you have it, over 5 decades of comic book history wrapped for you in under 500 words. With Avengers 2: Age of Ultron coming out May 1st, we’ll get a chance to see just how much of Ultron’s history plays into the film. Whatever else happens, I’m sure we’ll see some Oedipal complex and plans for world domination, maybe even the creation of the Vision if we’re lucky.

Check out this interview with Joss Whedon on the Batman v Superman trailer. He drew some interesting parallels between the Batman v Superman story arch and that of the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron plot.
Whedon's main point? Not everyone will agree 100% of the time. In Avenger's you have two groups each fighting for what they think is the right path for the prosperity of Earth. We see the same conflict in Batman v Superman. Two heroes at an impasse because their respective ideas of good do not agree.
]]>
So I suppose the question is Nature vs. Nurture. Is the force that shall prevail one of God given power? Or is the drive of one victim and the vengeance he seeks the unbeatable force? Or will these heroes come together in the name of justice?

The story about a guy and a girl who set the world on fire. Dominic Cooper has been confirmed in the role of Jesse Custer in AMC's heavily anticipated Preacher series. Seth Rogen announced the news via Twitter. Rogen along with Evan Goldberg developed the pilot for the series and seems to have been working overtime to secure Cooper.
Preacher's pilot was written by Sam Catlin and based off of the original storyline by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.
What do you think of Rogen and Goldberg's involvement in the Preacher storyline?

But as Matt Fowler from IGN states in his review last night’s episode was a bit sloppy and many fans might agree with him while others, like yours truly, loved every moment of it. Check out the whole review here and let us know what you thought of Gotham’s latest episode.
While the name might not sound familiar, Daniel Bruhl has had his share of the spotlight most notably in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglorious Bastards’ and most recently in Ron Howard’s ‘Rush’ alongside Chris Helmsworth star of Marvel’s Thor. Daniel received praise for both of his breakout roles and has now signed for ‘Captain America: Civil War’ in a yet to be announced role. Latino Review reports that he will not be playing the main villain in the upcoming ‘Civil War’, but might in fact be the main antagonist to Stephen Strange in ‘Doctor Strange’. Take a look at the article and let us know if you have an idea as to which character he will be playing.

Guardians of the Galaxy is nothing short of an amazing movie. Great expectations before the film, definitely, they really paid off and rocked Jack's world. Maybe that's why they've recorded the biggest August opening of all time with ticket sales of over $94 millions in the US alone. Keeping it short, the story is about a human who teams up with a bunch of aliens in order to save the galaxy from the evil Ronan the Accuser. The movie got made with the perfect choice of Guardians and a perfect cast to play them.

Who is not anticipating this Movie? At this point we are hoping that if Marvel is going to do an action movie and a love story they are going to get it right before we move into the next collection of Marvel Movies slated for 2014. This one may be the one that has the winning formula that will please the audiences and hopefully the hard core fan who has been, let's say a little more than disturbed about the last few movies, where a few too many liberties were taken from the original essence of how the hard core fan believed things should have gone. Anyway we digress the point of this is Thor and the new trailer that seems to have received a positive reaction for those we have spoken with that have seen it. Here's to hoping that the year ends on a positive Movie note with audiences pleased everywhere! ]]>When Zack Synder referenced the Wayne Enterprise logo on the satellite last month it was not the only Easter egg to get Batman Fans going. Recently in an interview Snyder referred to another Batman reference that we are sure many Batman fans missed.
Remember when Zod was tearing the building apart with his heat vision, there was a “Be Calm and Call Batman” sign on the wall really small just big enough to see it. When you are watching it again at the theatres or at home take a closer look. You may have to stop the film to see it but it is there. It’s really cool to see Batman references in the movie and better yet that Zack Snyder allowed them to stay in the movie after the final cut of Man of Steel.
Is this a sign that Warner Bros. is setting up a universe where both Batman and Superman will exist together? We can certainly hope that will be the case.
]]>
"I think you can go anywhere beyond this film that the mind can take you, and certainly we’ve been reading online all of the various possibilities being laid out there by both fan sites and fans."
Roven doesn't say who "we" is, but WE can guess that he's talking about Zack Snyder. That means that Zack Snyder and Charles Roven want to know what you think about the direction of future films. Haven't commented yet? You might want to do that.
There were some other interesting bits in the SFX Magazine interview too. When asked about the upcoming 'Man of Steel' film, Roven confirmed that we can expect it to be as grounded as the previews make it seem.
"As he [Snyder] said, this is the most realistic film, even though it’s about a superhero, that he’s ever shot. His whole style, everything that we did, was designed to bring that to the fore."
You can expect less of a fantastical movie and more of a look into the actual life of Superman. This movie isn't going to be of the usual superhero sort with the fresh spin that Snyder is putting on it – and that’s going to be a great thing.
We're excited to see this film - and to see whether or not Roven and Snyder pick up any of our comments (or YOUR comments) and run with them the next time around! Got any fresh ideas? Make sure to let your voice be heard!

Rumors and speculations surrounding the part that Carano might play in an upcoming film have been circulating long before the actress caught wind of such things. Would she even consider stepping into a superhero suit to play Wonder Woman? ‘Collider Magazine’ asked Carano how she felt about playing the part of Wonder Woman, and here’s what she had to say:
“That’s a dream to put on a costume and be a whole other level of character…there’s always the possibility that some day I will be a comic book character that I’ll play and I’m not sure who that’s going to be. It would be fun and fascinating. We’ll just have to see where my career is going to go. There’s so much I want to do. I’m…putting myself out there and seeing what’s attractive to me.”
Carano hasn’t been cast as Wonder Woman in any film yet, but she’s clearly open to the idea. It seems as though she’s also ready to don a costume and let the world know that she can pull off the part of Wonder Woman (we have no doubt!). Right now, Carano is working on promoting ‘Fast and Furious 6,’ though we certainly haven’t seen the last of her yet.
We’d also like to point out that we are behind Carano’s taking on the role of Wonder Women 100% -- and we love the fact that Carano and Cavill are dating in the real world (check out our post here). It is also rumoured that Carano will make an appearance in ‘Man of Steel’ as (what else?) the Amazonian woman.
This MMA fighter turned serious actress was BORN to play the part of Wonder Woman! Don’t you agree?
]]>Ever since Adams was first cast as Lois Lane, she's received a fair amount of criticism. Some felt that she wasn't a good fit for the sexy Lois Lane, and others feel that she's the perfect fit. No matter what side of the fence you're on, you can expect this year's Lois to be a completely different kind of woman -- a thoroughly modern one, in fact.
Right in line with current mantras like "Strong Is the New Skinny" and "Female Power," the newest Lois Lane isn't a damsel in distress by any stretch of the imagination. 'US Weekly' recently interviewed Adams to see what her role was all about - you may find yourself a tad bit surprised.
US Weekly tells us that the new Lois Lane "prefers business casual, is cell obsessed, and fights with her boss." Today's Lois Lane is social media savvy and comes with all the perks of being a modern day journalist (laptop, smartphone, and practical clothing included).
First look pics show Adams dressed in winter hats, pants, and baggy jackets. The days of Lois Lane in pencil skirts and heels are long gone, it seems. US weekly bills her as a "modern day business woman," and that certainly doesn't include any red lipstick or too-tight blazers.
Adams has entirely revamped the role of Lois Lane to fit today's woman, but some fans aren't thrilled about this modern twist. Then again, it's not necessarily all about male viewers - plenty of females will flock to theatres to see the new 'Man of Steel,' and those females want to see an empowered woman...not a flailing female.
How do you feel about the new Lois Lane? Take a look at the pics below and let us know what you think!

A member of the press that asked him point blank whether or not the rumours were true recently cornered Ruffalo. Ruffalo had this to say: "I haven't caught wind of any of that. I was surprised to hear it, because I don't even think anyone's really started negotiating yet...but sometimes actors are the last people to know what's going on."
Very true, Mark, very true. Often, agents and companies act on behalf of actors. So, it might be that Marvel is arguing over salaries with agents and representatives of various actors, and not actually with the actors themselves.
Is Marvel really arguing over money with the stars from the Avengers? It's hard to say for sure, but it's now clear that Mark Ruffalo doesn't know about the scuffle. He also stated that he does plan to come back as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, so not to worry if you're a hulk fan.
What about the rest of The Avengers cast? Who knows; but it will all come to the surface soon enough.
On another note: who'd like to see Edward Norton come back as 'The Hulk?' Norton was quickly replaced by Ruffalo, though some Hulk fans still prefer the job that Norton did.
It makes you wonder, though, if Ruffalo easily replaced Norton as 'The Hulk,' how easy would it be to replace RDJ as Iron Man? It might seem impossible now, but just look at how most people have already forgotten that Norton played the part!
]]>What he had to say (in an over-zealous kid kind of way) is this:
"Have you ever heard about the comic book Nova? We read an article about how Harley might be my middle name, and Keener could be my mom’s maiden name, and my dad could have joined the Nova Corps.
Then my real name’s Richie and I actually figure it out because my mom gets killed by an alien, then I figure out that my dad joined the Nova Corps, and I join the Nova Corps and I become Nova."
You have to love how this quote reads all kid-like, right? Well, Ty might be onto something. Maybe 'Harley' is his middle name, and maybe his mom is actually killed by an alien, and maybe he does become Nova. Maybe. Or, maybe he's just an excited kid that's been reading too much of his own press (again, not advisable, Ty!).
But, you also have to think about this: studios don't like it when actors (no matter how old they are) talk. Most of the time, actors have to check with a whole bunch of people before making any kind of public statement. Are we saying that Ty was put up to the task of letting the public know about his future role as Nova? Not necessarily.
We are saying this, though: you haven't seen the last of Harley. Not by a long shot. Now that he's officially been set up with his own Stark Studio (courtesy of his well-off mentor, Tony Stark), Harley has nowhere to go but up. Thoughts?
]]>But it is likely that Marvel (now owned by Disney) will take the Iron Man franchise as far as possible. Disney reps have been quoted as stating that the company is seeking to push Iron Man to Harry Potter proportions. In short: Disney isn't going to stop producing Iron Man films with or without RDJ.
It's amazing to think that Disney purchased Marvel for $4 billion, and the Iron Man franchise alone has already grossed $3 billion including 'The Avengers' - which might not include any of the former cast if Disney keeps haggling over contracts (we wrote about this yesterday here).
Analysts estimate that Disney could lose around 9% of its total earnings if RDJ walks away. That’s a lot of money when you’re talking billions. Does Disney have any real negotiating power here?
Here's a Marvel/Disney wake up call: Iron Man cannot exist without RDJ! RDJ is Tony Stark. The part was practically made for him.
Has Marvel lost its marbles? Maybe; or, maybe Marvel is willing to take the risk. Just look at the number of James Bonds we’ve gone through in the past. Is RDJ replaceable?
Comments? Thoughts? Can you really see someone else playing the part of Tony Stark? Heck, can you see someone else stepping into Pepper Pott's shoes (heels)?
]]>The devil, as they say, is in the details, and this is the case with ‘The Avengers 2.’
According to ‘Deadline Magazine’ the "…upfront pay, backend compensation, break even points and box office bonuses aren’t pinned down yet for several big stars and castmates…" Not knowing where the money will be coming from is a big deal to any contractor, including actors.
Each cast member of ‘The Avengers 2’ is asking around $5 million upfront, and more on the back end. But, Marvel isn't backing down on this one. Just like the studio didn’t let Chris Hemsworth out of his role as Thor in ‘Thor: The Dark World.’ Rumor has it that Hemsworth didn’t want to reprise the role, but the studio reminded him of his contract resulting in a new Thor movie that will debut on November 8th.
It has also been stated that Marvel has threated to sue the cast of ‘The Avengers 2’ if they don’t honor contract details. Some sources state that the collective response to this threat was a “so what?” Whether or not these rumors are true remains to be seen.
What will happen to the cast of ‘The Avengers 2’ if they don't receive payment details soon? Marvel might replace the cast if they strong-arm the company further. Or, the cast might quit. Either way, an ‘Avengers 2’ may never surface if money gets in the way.
Sources also state that the entire case of ‘The Avengers 2’ is looking up to RDJ. Iron Man 3 has already made RDJ around $35 million and climbing, and RDJ is said to be leading this fight, with his fellow cast members standing behind him.
Will there be an ‘Avengers 2?’ Not if Marvel and the cast of this film can't come to some kind of compromise! We'll keep you posted!

WARNING: Spoilers Below!
Storyline Review
This time around, Tony Stark is a deeper and jumpier version of his old self. He suffers from insomnia, the inability to concentrate, and a heaping helping of anxiety – can you say PTSD? Not surprising considering the events that went down in New York after the last Avengers. In this installment of Iron Man, Stark seems to be searching for his “true self,” and that makes for a much more dramatic (and richer) film.
Stark’s search for more life meaning leads directly to his love, Pepper Potts, of course. Paltrow is great in this film, and the chemistry between her and RDJ is intense (and far more believable this time around). Potts even gets to “suit up” in more ways than one…She almost burns up the screen! She’s so Hot!
Some Old Characters and Some New
The film also features Iron Patriot/War Machine/Rhodey played by Don Cheadle who was visibly more comfortable in War Machine’s shoes this time around. At one point in the film, Rhodey and Stark team up to form a partnership that’s reminiscent of a cop movie that’s also a lot of fun to watch. Cheadle and RDJ work well together on-screen too.
You’ll see a few new characters this time around as well. Guy Pearce plays a mean Aldrich Killian (ruthless businessman that rivals Tony every chance he gets), and, of course The Mandarin (!). We’ve been waiting a long time to see Sir Ben Kingsley take on the role of The Mandarin, and guess what? Kingsley doesn’t disappoint – it’s like he was born to play this role, and we love him for it.
We’re going to go ahead and bill Kingsley’s character’s storyline as “the craziest and nuttiest and most unpredictable” character in all the Marvel films that have been release so far. Kinglsey’s portrayal of The Mandarin will be talked about for years to come. Mark our words!
Visual Effects
What can we say? We’re not even going to try to put the effects into words. We’ll let Joss Whedon (‘Avengers’ director) say it for us: “how the hell and I going to top that?!” Good luck, Joss, good luck.
Some Criticism
What? We can’t love everything about this film. The one criticism we have is the development of the Extremis Project and its functions. At some points we were scratching our heads thinking: “oh, they can do that?!” and “wait, what the heck is that?” But, we didn’t agonize over these details for too long, since the movie was so fast paced.
Credits and the Future of Iron Man
Everything about the timing of this film was spot on. We weren’t bored for a moment, and had a hard time remember to eat our popcorn. As expected, the credits included some extra scenes (what would a Marvel film be without those extras?). But, we weren’t sure if those scenes were actually leading to something else, of if they were just created for fan amusement. Either way, we were amused.
The more important question is: will Tony Stark return? We’re sure of it. Will RDJ step into the suit once more? That’s debatable.
There is something fishy that we picked up on, though, and you won’t see this in any other review because we are great sleuths!
JOAT Exclusive Predictions!
What character scent did we pick up on? Leading up to this film, there was a lot of speculation that IM3 would provide some clues and hints relating to a possible 2014 release of a ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film. How many references did we see to a possible Guardians flick? Zero, zip, nada.
What we did see was a character by the name of Harley. Harley is a 10-year old boy that helps Stark out a great deal when Stark is investigating an explosion in Middle America. Stark and Harley (played by Ty Simpkins) have amazing on-screen chemistry, and we get the feeling that Harley’s story is far from being over. We’re predicting it right now: this is not the last time that you’ll see Harley, and he will be appearing in future Marvel films.
Remember: you read it on the Jack of All Trades site first!
Box Office Numbers
We’re glad we got to see IM3 in advance! Box office predictions are that IM3 will gross $600 million worldwide before Sunday! Grab your Iron Man tee and get some tickets – we recommend picking up those tickets as early as possible, it’s going to be a madhouse out there!

In an interview with the Huffington Post, Ben Kingsley told press a few things about his IM3 character, The Mandarin. We have known so far that Kingsley’s portrayal of The Mandarin involved a twist that is not part of the original plot, and that was the topic of some controversy for quite awhile. What we did not know was how Kingsley felt about the character – and how he feels the character turned out.
When asked whether or not he would have preferred to play The Mandarin without a twist, Kingsley stated: “…I totally would have accepted The Mandarin as The Mandarin, actually.” But, he also went on to tell the Post that he liked the twist that the movie’s screenwriters created. Kingsley stated, “…I did not know when the reveal would occur. And I was delighted when it did, it’s timed beautifully.”
Whether or not you like the idea of a new Mandarin, it’s hard to deny Kingsley’s abilities as an actor, and note that he probably would not have played a part that was sub-par in any way. Coming from a true thespian, The Mandarin (twist and all) sounds like an amazing character that, yes, might not be the original character, but is still awesome all the same.
Iron Man 3 will be available in North American movie theatres this Friday! This film will kick off the long line of summertime superhero blockbusters, and we can’t wait. Are you going to go see Iron Man 3 when it arrives in your town? How do you feel about this “twist” bit? Sound off below – and let us know! Jack's News will be there tonight so stay tuned as we will report back tomorrow with some news but promise not to give anything away!

The trailer doesn't provide too much insight into the upcoming film. We can tell that Thor will have to protect Earth, will meet up with some old enemies, will, likely find new enemies, and also has to battle the Dark Elves while wielding his hammer.
The Dark Elves are rising in this version of 'Thor: The Dark World,' and they are threatening to destroy all of the nine realms, including Earth. We're sensing a love triangle here between Thor, Portman's character (Jane Foster), and Thor's battle buddy, Sif (played by Jaimie Alexander) – something for everyone, it seems.
The trailer also shows Thor seeking help from Loki (looking entirely the part of a villain, or metal rocker, and hotter than ever, your pick), which will be interesting. The movie looks like a lot of fun, and we are certainly expecting more trailers leading up to the film's release this coming fall.
]]>Then again, ‘Iron Man’ was never a ‘Dark Knight’ kind of film, so we weren’t really expecting something dark and gloomy. We have to wonder, though, if this film is playing far too much on the comedic side of things. Given the reviews posted today, it definitely seems as though RDJ’s character is stocked full of one-liners, and some reviewers feel that this detracts from the movie as a whole. We don’t think this will be the case as Stark’s humor is something that adds to the Iron Man Movie franchise.
What you can expect (based on current reviews) is a lot of tension between Stark and Potts, The Mandarin interfering where he can (of course), and a lot of shots featuring Stark tinkering away on various suits in his workshop. Reviewers thus far are calling the new film a lighthearted superhero comedy, so don’t expect to be terrorized.
That said, ‘Iron Man 3’ (in all its lighthearted glory) is a great way to kick off the summertime superhero movie season. Why start the season with something gory, when you can just kick back and watch Stark do what he does best? Make those around him laugh, have a few flashbacks, and continue the snide and snarky character that he’s spent a lot of time building – and that we all love.
The film is going to debut in our neck of the woods (and across North America) on May 3rd – that’s just a few days away. Stay tuned for our take on the film!
]]>Instead of showing up in the film as Rocket Racoon (the part he was gunning for), Rooker will appear as Yondu, the bow hunter. Yondu is a game hunter from the Zatoan tribe of Centauri IV. Yondu is one of the founding members of the Guardians of the Galaxy from the original comic series of the late 60’s. His weapon of choice is, of course, the iconic 5-foot bow.
Whether or not the film will stick with the original Guardians plot is unknown. But, Michael Rooker is not exactly new to acting, and he seems like a decent fit for this role. In case you're not familiar with Rooker, he plays Merle Dixon on the hit show 'The Walking Dead.' He also happens to have a past with 'Guardians' screenwriter James Gunn.
Gunn and Rooker worked together on 'Slither' and 'Super', and Gunn seems to have campaigned to get Rooker in on the Guardians action too. Rooker will be joining the likes of Dave Batista (former WWE star) and Chris Pratt ('Moneyball') in the film that's set to be released on August 1, 2014.
As always, we'll keep you posted on any developments!
