‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ is underway with Bryan Singer at the helm. Singer recently tweeted a photo of a portion of the massive set to followers, and it looks like this film is going to be huge (see pic below). While X-Men 3 wasn’t well received by all, the new X-Men film will be entirely different.

The upcoming film is based on a 1981 comic book written and devised by Chris Claremont and John Byrne called ‘Days of Future Past’ which ran in “Uncanny X-Men” from issue #141 and #142. The story follows an adult Kitty Pryde, from a dystopian alternate future where mutants have been imprisoned in internment camps by the government and hunted by massive robots called ‘Sentinels’.

To prevent this future from happening, Kitty transferred her mind to her present day self with the hopes of preventing the murder of Senator Kelly by Mystique and ‘The Brotherhood Of Evil Mutants’ in which leads to the anti-mutant future from which she came.

Taking place in 1973, this film will be nothing like the X-Men of old – and that might be a good thing.  Singer is keeping most of the storyline a secret for now, but we do know that the script follows the ‘Uncanny X-Men’ comic closely. So far, a number of actors will come back to reprise X-Men roles including Halle Berry who just signed on to the film.

Additional cast members include Anna Paquin, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Peter Dinklage, Ellen Page, and many others. Needless to say, this film is packed with famous faces.

The new X-Men won’t be joining this summer’s blockbusters, but it will arrive in 2014 aiming for a July release date. The film officially begins shooting in April.
